Genesis 11:27–32
Terah was the father of Abram (later Abraham). Besides Abram, he had two other sons, Nahor and Haran. Going by the order in which their names appeared, Haran might have been Terah’s last son, and unfortunately, he died while Terah was still alive. However, he already had a son, Lot.
I wonder why Terah left behind Nahor and his family and took only Abram, Sarai, and Lot when he left Ur of the Chaldeans to sojourn to Canaan.
Though Terah’s destination was Canaan, he settled in Haran and could not go past there, and I wonder why.
Why Haran? Remember, Haran was the name of his younger son whom he lost. Could the land have been named after him? Was it grief that stopped Terah from moving forward? Or was he on an adventure to find the cause of his son’s death that distracted him from his original mission to Canaan?
Well, we will never know why, but Terah could not move past Haran. He died there.
May his soul rest in peace!
