Master Cut

One of the chores I enjoy taking off my husband’s plate once a month is taking our children to the barbershop for a haircut. It has become a first-Sunday-of-the-month evening routine.

The barbershop we often visit has a couple of barbers, and after observing them at work for many months, I concluded that these guys have found a canvas in the heads of every customer who walks into their shop.

The way they use multiple clippers, scissors of different sizes, and combs of various shapes to carefully tend to every strand of hair and sometimes moustaches amazes me. Sometimes, we arrive and see one of the barbers cutting a customer’s hair, and even at the point of leaving, they’re still at it. In my mind, I’m wondering, what are you still seeing to cut? These guys are indeed unsung artists creating fine art on the go!

One beautiful thing I’ve noticed is how they follow the shape of each customer’s head to define the cuts. Without needing any guidance, each barber we meet always cuts my children’s hair in a way that complements their head shape. They both have different head shape and hair texture.

Isn’t that like God? Giving each of us gifts according to His design. I love how the Amplified Classic version of the Bible expresses Ephesians 2:10:

“For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].”

I believe we would all have a “clean cut” in life if we could just allow the Master’s design for us so as to live the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live, regardless of our gender, color, size, or location.
