I still remember the feeling I use to have when I am bracing to jump the rope during skipping game (las las, as we normally call it). The feeling when the count is ongoing, and I am calculating when to jump in without getting caught by the rope.
I feel the same way sometimes at the start of a new year or new responsibility. It feels like, ‘omo! am I prepared for this?’
I have maximum respect for people who set goals and walk through it. I don’t know how you guys do it because when I look at the liftings to pull, I just feel like Mary when she asked the angel, ‘how can this be…?’ I can relate with one of the sons of the prophet when he exclaimed to Elisha, ‘…alas, my master! how shall we do?’
In times when I am not sure of the goals to set when the post seems larger than life in my head, I try to find a fulcrum, dig my heels and walk from there.
A sure fulcrum for me is being in the presence of the Father. I don’t even know where else I can find sanity to manage the buzz of competing priorities every day.
Since there is nothing new under the sun, I observe the steps of the wise and follow their path. ‘Imitation is not limitation’ says my dad.
I love structure and try to anchor activities around it. I try to amplify what works and review them from time to time.
When things get complex and daunting and I don’t know how to articulate them in words or on paper, I dust off the 8th chapter of Paul’s letter to the Romans:
And in a similar way, the Holy Spirit takes hold of us in our human frailty to empower us in our weakness. For example, at times we don’t even know how to pray, or know the best things to ask for. But the Holy Spirit rises up within us to super-intercede on our behalf, pleading to God with emotional sighs too deep for words. (Romans 8:26 – The Passion Translation)
This is a sure fulcrum for me!
How do you manage to find balance?
