Count your Blessings

Count your Blessings

What was 2018 like for you?

Was the last 365 days at sync with the picture you had in mind when the year started? Did you meet your set targets?  Were you just around the corner at nailing it or was it a low one for you?

No doubt, this year delivered several boxes to us.

Some of them contained beautiful things of life that made us smile; some had contents that made us wince, the content in some probably got on our nerve as it delivered bitter juices that we could not sip, but however the year was, I am sure we have a reason to be thankful.

A few days ago, I sat down with a pen and paper to note the blessings I enjoyed this year.

As I thought and jotted down, I was overwhelmed at the details of God’s blessings that I had overlooked and forgotten and it helped me thank God better.

Did you make trips this year?

Did you commute to work safely? I think it is something to be thankful for because no trip is too small.  You did not lose a toe or break a bone, you should be grateful.

It could be that one of your struggles this year was to shed weight that you gained from eating good meals.

You should be thankful that you could afford three-course meals and extra to buy pizza, ice-cream and everything else in between. Not everyone could afford a balanced diet a day not to talk of the extra that gave your flesh the plump. Some people are malnourished and being sustained by aids.

Did you fall sick and recovered this year?

That is another thing to be thankful to God for because you responded to the treatment that was administered. There were people who were allergic to the same medications that you responded well to and could not make it alive. ‘Common malaria’ as we would say can actually get complicated. That yours did not is something to be thankful for this year.

Great if you got a new job or even got promoted but if you ever felt disappointed that you did not get the new offer you desired, I guess you should be thankful that you were not laid off or jobless.

You can still pay your basic bills, please be grateful.

How was your relationship this year? Did your path cross with that right lady or man you have been hoping for? Did you get a proposal? Did you get married? Are you still married? Well, if none of these apply to you, I am sure you have loved ones who sincerely love you and care about you. I saw a tweet two weeks ago that touched me deeply.

The tweet was titled “Even in death, he is still ignored”.

A lady tweeted about a dead man she saw lying on the side of the road with flies and insects having a party while activities moved on around the deceased. That your family could put a call across to check on you is something to be thankful for.

You found a caring shoulder to cry on when you felt hurt is something to cherish. You received a good hug from a dear friend when you needed one is something to be grateful for.

Quite frankly, we are not better off people who did not make it to December 31st. What would you have done if you did not? Well, one thing is certain, life would move on without stopping for a second.

For you to have read this post to this point show your mind is still intact and your heart still beating.

For the many blessing experienced, I think we should be thankful for the FACTS and for the ones we are still anticipating, let’s thank Him in FAITH.
