Growing up too fast

Growing up too fast

I recently listened to a song by Rachel Aldous titled “A Mother’s Prayer” and I love it. I have been listening to the song for some days. The lyrics are just too awesome. Initially, I found the last two lines of the chorus amusing. The line goes;

May you cherish your Youth

And not grow up too fast

After some time of pondering on what she meant by ‘not to grow up too fast’ I got some personal interpretations.

Really, some people grow up too fast at their detriment. When I was in secondary school, I had some classmates who were beautiful and knew it. They spent most of their time in class making up and remaking up their pretty faces.

They could not wait for the curves blooming to get to figure eight before they began to flaunt it. And of course, guys wouldn’t let them be because they were the hot babes, not just in class, but the entire school and even my little town.

They knew stuff that little girls in secondary school should not. They became sweet sixteen at age 12, immaculate 18 at age 14 and adorable 21 at age 15.

Too impatient they were to be girls and relish the feeling of being so that they turned teen mums.

And those who didn’t become mums lost their innocence too fast. They could not concentrate on solving mathematics of SS 1 nor focus on studying the literature of SS 2, hence, had to drop out of school due to much distraction which could not allow them get beyond F9s.

I think I now know what it was, they didn’t cherish their youths; they grew up too fast!

I saw a little boy some days ago who I presume should be less 7 years of age about 9:pm hawking pure water on a very busy road not too far from where I live. He was hawking at the time that little boys should be in bed sleeping. I know it is not poverty because that should be the parents business to deal.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with helping out ones’ parents with their trade in the market, but out at that time of the night…

That boy is learning the harsh reality of lack and wants which his little mind may be too frail to grasp and interpret accurately.

Where are his parents/guardian?

I think that is a picture of a boy growing up too fast.

On the flip side, circumstances make some children grow up too fast which could be a huge plus later in life. There’ve been cases of young children losing their parents or either at a very young age and have no option but to quickly step and fill up the shoes left behind. Such people gain immense capacity and mental aptitude that become very handy for survival and success in future.

I admire those people for growing up too fast for good.

I will love to hear your own interpretation of growing up too fast. Please feel free to share in the comment box.
